My my has April flown by!

Well we had a great Easter, pictures to be posted soon. We learned not to EVER go to the Knight's Action Park Easter Egg Hunt, Torie almost got ran over at the mini course. We ended up just going home and having our own Easter egg hunt in the backyard. Once Torie learned what we were doing, she didn't want to stop! When we ran out of eggs she turned to rocks, twigs, etc. So much fun!

Zach turned 5 April 14th. We spent his birthday night at Grandma and PaPa Kates house, and I made my first layered birthday cake. Complete with lots of decorations and frosting flowers (Zach's favorite). Then the following weekend we had a bowling party. Even though the staff at the alley were not helpful at all, the kids had fun and that's what really matters! Zach and Torie topped the scoring of the day, and Zach got to take home a bowling pin that everyone signed. He used it throughout the game to get his "super powers" to bowl with. It was a rainy day but fun!

I volunteered with the Prarie Center Against Sexual Assault the following weekend for their "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event. Pretty much what it is, is men of all ages walking a mile in high heels. They are men's sizes, but that didn't make it any easier to walk! I saw teenage boys walking as well as a 3 year old with patent leather little girls shoes (he was riding in a stroller). It was really neat to see the dads that were walking with their little girls though. I took pictures as well as donated a prize. I'll be posting those soon too! Lots of fun!

Finally, last Sunday was our offical open house/BBQ. We haven't really had anyone over because we hadn't gotten the house fixed up. Even though there's a lot more we want to do, we wanted to open our home up to our friends and family. It was a perfect day with partly cloudy skies, the warmest day of the year so far, and was complete with good friends, amazing food, and ice cream! I can't wait to have another one! It was fun to see all the kids playing together in the backyard.

Oh, and we changed the wedding date again. Our reception hall got booked before we could get our deposit in so I had to juggle dates among my vendors. We're set for June 18, 2010...FINAL ANSWER!! You should be getting your save the date cards in the mail soon.

Spring Family Photos

Here are the pictures we took Saturday. Big thanks to Lauren for being my photog for the day! We had a ton of fun, even though Torie was cranky and Zach was anxious. We managed to get some pretty good pictures out of it! Here's the link:

Let me know if you want copies of any of them and what size and I'll send them to you. Hope you enjoy them just as much as we do!

Latest Pictures

Here are the latest pictures and events from the Kates household:

Torie is learning how to play dress up! She loves necklaces and is even trying to put on mommy's high heels. This day we were going through some old clothes to give away and Auntie LaLa thought mommy's old shirts would make great dresses for Torie!

Torie has learned how to make a huge mess in the bathroom by splashing as much as she can! Zach took this picture (what a great photographer) of the soapy mohawk we gave Torie! She loves bathtime and Zach is a great help!

We went to our friend Maggie's 3rd birthday party and the theme was fairies/tinkerbell. All her friends got wings and a wand to take home! With all the cake in her system it took me a while to get her to smile for a picture! She makes a very cute fairy though!

As you can see Zach is a fantastic big brother! He loves cuddling with her and lately we can find them in any laundry basket available snuggled up to watch A Bugs Life or Robots. Her favorite activity with Zach is....surprisingly wrestling! She holds her own and will be a tough little girl when she gets older thanks to her big brother!

We are getting used to having longer hair with pony or pigtails. Most of the time this is what Torie looks like once Mommy steps away for about 30 seconds. Her hair doesn't stay cute for very long!

Happy April Fools Day! We had "cake" for dinner! It was really meatloaf inside and the frosting was really mashed potatoes. The red icing is really ketchup. Needless to say it was a big surprise when Zach took his first bite!

This was right after Zach took his first bite of "cake." When I asked him if it was good cake he said "yes" and just kept chewing! Bless his heart he didn't want to tell me my cake tasted funny! He learned what April Fools Day was all about and continued "April Foolsing" me the rest of the night!

Saturday we are taking our first family pictures so keep a look out for those! I'm going to try to be better about taking seasonal family pictures. Sunday is Auntie LaLa's birthday so we'll have some fun pictures from that hopefully! Have a great Thursday!

Torie's getting tubes!

The doctor said she has fluid in her ears so we are scheduled for the procedure on April 8th. Notice I used the word procedure and not surgery...that's because surgery freaks me out a little. All of my friends have been telling me what a simple procedure it is and she'll be fine the next day, but I can't help but be a little worried. So at this point, we're scheduled and will let you know how it goes.

As a side note, my wedding dress has officially been scanned in by UPS to Illinois. So hopefully that means I will get it tomorrow. If you haven't seen it yet, here's a picture. It is sort of couture and different and I wasn't even sure if I'd like it, but it's the only dress that made me cry when I put it on so it's definately the one!

What it doesn't show is the little crystals in the tulle skirt, and I will have a vail to match. I'm getting more and more excited as things start to fall into place!

Torie's Bday Pictures

So I finally uploaded all Torie's birthday pictures to facebook and found out that I can share the albums by posting the links (I like their photo uploading tool way better than anything else). So here's the link to Torie's actual birthday at our house with the family http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2119127&id=48606832&l=83cdbdb019 and here's the one of her birthday party http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2119120&id=48606832&l=8782af1ac2 while I'm at it I'll go ahead and give you the link to our Christmas album, as much as I wanted to do Christmas cards this year it didn't work out so well, maybe next year http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2119138&id=48606832&l=fc3a696b82

Torie has an appointment with an ENT doctor today, we may have to get tubes! :o/ So I will keep everyone updated on that.

It's been awhile...

My apologies for the lapse in time, not having internet at home will do that. Well, since my last post (August 2008). Torie turned 1 on December 12 surrounded by friends and family. Time really has flown and I'm excited for what the next year has in store for us. Her party was so much fun! We had it at our church (same as the baby shower) and Torie had so much fun eating the cake that she picked up the whole thing and smashed her face in it.....classic! Zach is still her most favorite person and is still the only one that can make her laugh as hard as she does.

Zach started pre-school and is looking forward to starting kindergarden in the summer. We're going to be learning how to ride his two-wheeler very soon, so watch for updates on that! We fostered two basset hound/lab mix puppies last month named Tanner and Coal. Tanner was adopted at the first adoption event he went to and we're still waiting for Coal to find a home. We do miss them a lot but will be more prepared for having a puppy in the future when it's time.

Wedding plans are coming along, even though financially it's very frustrating. We decided to have it here in town at the Rail on May 21, 2010. It's a Friday night so we figured we could spend more time with family that weekend. It will be an early evening wedding with hors d'oevres. I was very lucky to find the exact dress that I wanted on eBay for 1/3 the price and we're waiting on the delivery now.

I did get a great job in the midst of these hard economic times. I was working part-time as a secretary for the Illinois Optometric Association when their Communications Director position became available after a month. I revealed my background in design and they hired me right then. I am in charge of maintaining the website, e-Newsletters, and a quarterly journal. I love it (even though the people here can be frustrating at times), it's just like I'm back in yearbook! HA!

Jim is excited to start working on the house this summer. The last bad storm took some of our shingles off of our roof, so we're waiting on the insurance claim to process to get that fixed. Our house is about 25-30 years old at least so there's a lot of updating required. Next will probably be the siding and windows. My project for the summer will be landscaping. One of our favorite things to do during the summer is have friends over for a BBQ so I want to make the backyard presentable! Plus, we have to make it safer for the kids to run around!

Well, here's to a great spring/summer now that the weather is warming up, and hopefully I can keep up on this blog a lot better.

All our love,
Lisa, Jim, Zach and Torie too!
